La Marató de TV3 2011

Dec 13, 2011

On 18th december, La Marató de Tv3 will reach the 20th edition with a programme on regeneration and transplantation of organs and tissues. La Marató has become, after two decades of successful contributions, the biggest solidary and participatory event in Catalonia. Hundreds of thousands of people, organizations, institutions and companies have joined efforts in the same direction: to obtain financial resources to promote biomedical research on diseases without a cure.

The project also achieves an impact on collective sensitivity raising awareness about the reality of diseases and arousing empathy, solidarity and respect for those affected, and the participation of the whole society. The investment of 100 million euros that want to be recaptured this year is an amount that places La Marató as a reference for the institutions that fund research, and so far has allowed the work of 3,000 scientists, who have helped boost biomedical research sector in Catalonia.

Investment in research funds collected in La Marató 2011 will also allow developments in the surgical, pharmacological, preservation of organs and tissues, and advance regenerative medicine applications fields. For many patients, these advances mean better quality of life, and in some cases, even mean saving their lives.

This year’s TV program will air on December 18th through the TV3 channel, and as every year, I will participate in it taking calls at the call center from  18h a 19,30h. You can make donations through Servicaixa and www.tv3.cat/marato or through a bank transfer to La Caixa, to the account number 2100 0555 31 0201001500.

I encourage you to participate as much as possible -even internationally-!
